BIO Dr. Cowen served as the Director of Oculoplastic Surgery at the University of Kentucky where he trained residents and other physicians in diseases and surgery of the eyelid, lacrimal (tear) system and orbit. He was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure until becoming the founder and director of Oculoplastic & Orbital Consultants in November of 2000. Dr. Cowen continues to devote his efforts to education through invited lectures at the University of Kentucky and other professional organizations locally, regionally and nationally. The majority of his efforts are directed to the delivery of medical and surgical care in oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital diseases including cosmetic surgery of the eyelids and brow. Cosmetic surgery and laser rejuvenation of the face highlight a portion of his practice. Expanding care to Central and Eastern Kentucky as well as regions of West Virginia and Virginia has resulted from his availability through regional clinics in Ashland, London, Corbin, Frankfort, Hazard and Prestonsburg. Dr. Cowen is board certified in Ophthalmology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, Kentucky Chapter American College of Surgeons, American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and a member of the European Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and International Society of Cosmetic Laser Surgeons. Along with his passion for education, Dr. Cowen also has a passion to serve and give. He has traveled with mission groups providing care to people and educating local surgeons on surgical care and techniques. He and his wife Katrina have five children. They enjoy spending time together by camping and traveling. They are active members at Tates Creek Presbyterian Church here in Lexington where Dr. Cowen serves as an Elder and chairman of their missions committee. |
